Please note that the ability to both swim and ride a bike are essential and will need to be signed off if choosing.

AIM OF COURSE

The Outdoor Education ATAR course will provide environmental and personal learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom. It is through direct experience with some of Western Australia’s ‘biodiversity hot spots’ and an understanding of the natural environment they are encountering that students will develop a positive human-nature relationship. This connection will ultimately produce informed and well-rounded people in the future who will contribute towards a sustainable world.

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE

Year 11:

  • Unit 1: Experiencing the Outdoors

  • Unit 2: Facing Challenges in the Outdoors

Year 12:

  • Unit 3: Building confidence in the Outdoors

  • Unit 4: Outdoor leadership

ASSESSMENT

Students will undertake a variety of assessment types as outlined below:

  • Investigation: Students plan and conduct research and communicate their findings

  • Performance 1: Specific to Outdoor Adventure activity skills

    Students develop and refine skills through practical activities during class

  • Performance 2: Specific to Expedition

    Students apply the skills and strategies covered in class to their expedition

  • Response: Students analyse and respond to prompts in test and reflections

  • Externally Set Task: 50min written task developed by SCSA
